Artsy Clay

Judy is a friend of mine and she’s sent me beautiful pendants in the past for my own craft. I’m happy to feature her cute pieces.

Judy’s clay creations have always been a favourite of mine. The sheep pendant featured here was used in one of my own jewellery pieces. I hold onto it because I love it so much. Judy has written a biography about herself and her craft.

Judy: I grew up with an artistic mom and cousins, and we were always making crafty things. I learned at an early age the joy of brightening others’ lives with a handmade gift. As an adult, I explored everything from needlework and stained glass to making greeting cards and calligraphy, but always wished I could find one special medium that I could feel passionate about.

One day in 1997, a friend’s daughter, age 6, was wearing the most beautiful necklace with big bold colorful beads and I asked her where she got it. I was astonished when she said she’d made it in art class at school, and her mother told me it was made of polymer clay and where to buy some with an instruction book. I made almost everything in the book and knew immediately that clay was something special and all I’d been searching for.

Family and friends started buying my work, and eventually encouraged me to sell in galleries, at craft shows and online. I started on ebay, then opened a shop on etsy. It’s so gratifying that my little creations have gone to almost every state in the USA and all over the world to different countries. It’s also gratifying to keep learning and improving. I still get excited over new ideas and techniques, and am continually fascinated with the endless possibilities of colors, shapes, layers and embellishments.
